Wondering if there’s a ‘bug’ going around right now? Now you might be able to have more info about that. There is a new flu tracking system that can help people see how things are going, with respect to the flu, in their area.
Flu Near You
Flu Near You (at http://www.flunearyou.org) is a website and free tool that you can use to report flu and to find out how much flu is going on in your area. This info could help you plan better (such as staying away from the malls, amping up hand sanitizing efforts, increasing vitamin C intake, and so on). It can also help you understand whether or not what you’re feeling (or a family member is feeling) is the flu or not.
The tool is set up, at the moment, for Canada and the USA, and you can register to use the tool with your Facebook address or your email address. Once you confirm the verification email, you’ll be able to access the site. You’re greeted with a survey about your symptoms and the symptoms of anyone in your family.
You can opt to receive weekly surveys or not. The site shows a map with color coding and a legend to help people understand what the trends are in their geographical area. Those trends come from a combo of other user reports and Centers for Disease Control reports as well.
Whether you and your loved ones have received a flu shot or not, there’s no guarantee against the flu so it could be advantageous to stay abreast of trends where you are as well as for places you might be traveling to.
